NovaSure Ablation

Am I a candidate for NovaSure endometrial ablation?

NovaSure ablation, which has been FDA-approved for over 18 years, is beneficial for resolving heavy bleeding and abnormal periods once and for all. This in-office procedure may be right for you if:

  • You want an alternative to a hysterectomy
  • Heavy uterine bleeding is lowering your quality of life
  • Your family is complete (you won’t be able to bear children afterward)

Because of the cutting-edge technology behind NovaSure, you can receive the treatment you need for heavy bleeding in a short five-minute, in-office procedure.

What happens during a NovaSure ablation session?

The team of board-certified OB/GYNs at Advanced Obstetrics & Gynecology specializes in minimally invasive procedures, such as the NovaSure ablation. While no sedation is necessary for NovaSure endometrial ablation, your provider may recommend taking over-the-counter pain medication to help with post-treatment discomfort.

During your NovaSure session, you lie back on the exam table and place your feet in stirrups, just as you do during a pelvic exam. Your OB/GYN opens your cervix slightly and inserts a thin, hollow wand tool.

The next step involves sending a triangle-shaped net-like device through the wand and into your uterus. This netting expands to fit the exact size and shape of your inner uterus.

Once the netting is in place, your OB/GYN sends gentle waves of precisely measured radiofrequency energy through the netting to destroy your uterine lining. This step takes about 90 seconds, and then the netting and wand are removed.

What is the recovery like after NovaSure ablation?

You might experience some mild cramping or pelvic pain after your NovaSure ablation procedure, as well as some minor spotting. The caring team at Advanced Obstetrics & Gynecology generally find that these side effects resolve within a few days.

While no downtime is necessary after a NovaSure endometrial ablation procedure, your OB/GYN is likely going to recommend avoiding strenuous activities and sexual intercourse for several days, or until any side effects resolve.

It may take a few months for you to experience all of the benefits of your NovaSure ablation procedure. But this innovative treatment from Advanced Obstetrics & Gynecology has helped countless women experience lighter periods over time.

Find out if NovaSure ablation is right for you by booking an evaluation at Advanced Obstetrics & Gynecology today. You can conveniently schedule either online or over the phone.
